We can’t believe it’s been virtually a year since we completed our house renovations (it took that long to get over it)! So we thought we’d pull together a quick ‘before’ & ‘after’ picture blog to show the transformation (more for us so that in 10 years time we can look back and remember it all, but also for our international friends who have not yet had the chance to visit).
Elldrew hate to say it, but truth be told, after 3 months of decision making, 4 months construction, and another 3 months to do “finishing touches”, we’re a little bit over talking about renovations. For the best part of a year our lives have been dominated by the search for and creation of our ideal home…and we love it! We love coming home every night to the finished result, but it was a labour of love. Nevertheless, not only did we want to show off a little of what we’ve done, hopefully we can provide some helpful handy hints for anyone else embarking on such a project (do ask away if we can be of help with any supplier details, etc).
We will start this series with one of our favourite rooms, the kitchen.
So we have to say that last night the final blind (the missing piece of the renovation puzzle) arrived but half the size of the actual window! We and blind person not sure how it happened, so we are just going to have to wait a little bit longer till we can say we have officially finished renovations (for now anyway…the outside decking proposal is definitely on hold until 2014 earliest, giving us enough time to put the past months well and truly behind us).
And possibly down to timing, but phone holding over 100 renovation pics decided to die suddenly causing all data to be lost (stupidly not backed-up properly) so at least we wont be able to bore you with too many progress photos.
But there is some good news. We have finally taken photos of the new kitchen and will be sharing these very soon.
…We’ve been snagging!
So we know it’s been awhile since we posted an update on the renovations, 2012 to be exact. Now that the sun is beginning to shine with the sniff of Spring in the air, and not to mention the final bit of snagging has been completed in the last week, Elldrew are planning to post some before and after pics soon. Watch this renovated space!
Week 7 and there is finally light at the end of the tunnel. With the week of Week 8 booked off from work for snagging and furniture deliveries, and although the builders seem to be approximately 1 week behind, we are positive that by the end of Week 8 we may have a house back…fingers crossed anyway! Week 7 has seen patchy, plastery walls and scuffed and cracked woodwork transformed into glossy painted surfaces. Our nagging doubts about colour have been resolved, and, having gone through 53 paint samples, we’re really pleased with the final choice.
TANTRUMS AND TIARAS
Week 6 in Elldrew Manor has been a week of mixed emotions. Whether it was coming down from the high of last week’s Parisian jaunt, or that we are just sick of the dirt and dust, we don’t really know, but for sure the first half of the week was one of bad moods, frustration with Mr Builder, and tedium at living in a tiny self contained room.
DECORATION AND A JAUNT TO PARIS
Week 5 and the renovations have definitely taken a positive turn with construction at Elldrew Manor turning towards decoration. Alas, that means that most of the week seems to have been consumed with plastering, sanding, erecting of walls, positioning of pattresses (the box buried in the wall behind the light switch in case you didn’t know), and other relatively dull but important prep tasks. It also meant that most evenings it has taken Elldrew 1-2 hours of wondering if the builders turned up to realise what they had been doing all day. This week we have learnt patience and that lots of little tasks add up to one big one.
3 OF 7
Week 4 and the house still looks like a bomb site. So much for it being a 4-5 week job…more like a 6-8 week job we think!
