For Arts Sake

spitalfields market

On a recent trip to Spitalfields (London’s oldest markets), we came across their monthly Arts Fair. A bit disheartened by the size of it (about 10 ‘booths’) we decided to have a look around anyway as we had been looking for several months for something to take pride of place on our lounge room wall…the ‘missing’ piece to complete the recent renovations on the ground floor.  Having trawled through countless art websites, even making a few unsuccessful gallery trips, we had planned to attend the next Affordable Art Fair, until we came across visual artist Lene Bladbjerg

You can read all about Lene on her website, but do check her out if you are looking for some innovative prints at affordable prices. Lene uses a mix of techniques to create interesting and original pieces of art; whether it be a play on words, images or a combination of both (evident from her graphic design background).

We fell in love with her ‘Pole Dancing’ print (pictured above) and snapped one up on the day (something that makes you smile has to be good right?). Plus we are a tad over the whole reproduction of the original London propaganda ‘Keep Calm and Carry On’ paraphernalia that has been circulating since its reinvention in 2000.

Apart from prints, Lene also does original drawings and paintings, again using a combination of materials and techniques. We have also commissioned Lene to produce a large format piece that incorporates new and rusted scalpel blades on a painted backdrop…the long awaited piece for the lounge. We will post a photo once completed and hung!
