A Sunday Roasting

red lion pub

Nothing quite beats a gathering of friends for a Sunday roast at a gastropub, even better when it’s overcast. Pick the right venue and you feel the warmth and charm soak through your veins as you sit back, relax and catch-up over a glass of vino whilst deciding if you want a beef, lamb, pork, chicken or vege roast with all the trimmings.

I’m not sure why it has taken us so long to get back there, last time was 2009 when Stephen Gately from Boyzone was sitting near us with his family/friends before his shock exit from this world, but as soon as friends recommended The Red Lion and Sun Highgate, we were like ‘yes’!

With its tasteful rustic interior – we love the little details dotted around the place – and its friendly, attentive staff addressing a rather busy clientèle, it’s like someone turned the speed dial down and things just fell into a steady pace that allowed us to relax and enjoy the company of friends (there’s a lot going on around you but for some reason you just don’t notice).

We naturally all had a roast, which was yummy, but we couldn’t help posting some pics of their delicious desserts (sticky toffee pudding, choc brownie with ice cream, trio of sorbet to name but a few) complemented with an energising coffee to kick-start the adrenaline so we could face the bustling streets again (actually I think the coffee was to blame for the conversation that followed about grammar and punctuation…no judging please)!

A lovely way to end the weekend and to see our friends (you know who you are) and we promise not to leave it so long next time, on both accounts.
